Shichi-go-san is a Japanese festival that celebrates young children's health and passage into adulthood. At the age of three, five, and seven, they are taken to shrines to pray to Ujigami, the Shinto god of health. To celebrate this rite of passage, children are dressed up in special Shichi-go-san kimonos that depict robust animals and colourful faunas to represent healthy and vibrant lives. These kimonos have been repurposed by adding silk panels to widen the body and sleeves.
